Lemon Sour Cream Pound Cake

Traditional pound cake calling for one pound of the main ingredients (butter, flour, sugar, & eggs). Serve alone, toasted, or iced. Pairs well for whipped cream and fruit, too.
Lemon Sour Cream Pound Cake

Ingredients

  • 2 cups butter (softend, not melted)
  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 6 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • juice of 1 lemon
  • lemon rind
Don't substitute low fat or artificial ingredients!

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
  2. Prepare pan with grease & flour. Keep in mind this recipe is a traditional pound cake, so the pan needs to hold 16 cups of batter! A bundt pan only hold 12 cups, so scale as needed.
  3. Cream together butter and sugar.
  4. Mix in eggs.
  5. Mix in dry ingredients.
  6. Mix in sour cream, lemon juice & rind.
  7. Pour into prepared pan and bake for 1 hour and 30 minutes.
  8. The finished cake is quite dense. The batter doens't raise much during baking.
