Just the Basics

Here are a few easy suggestions for planning your Mardi Gras event to get you started:
  • Encourage costumes and give everyone a Mardi Gras name with the simple conversion card in the “things to buy section.” Have festive or colorful name tags & pens handy to let everyone in on the fun.
  • Create Photo Ops. For reasonable costs, you can buy large backdrops and props to create easy options for tenants to see themselves in the action and post on social media. Provide masks, feather boas, and parade beads to compliment any costumes or start the fun. Encourage social media posts! Consider giveaways or a trip to a prize wheel for posting to sites of your choice. Purchased materials can become giveaways or reused year to year if you have storage space.
  • Schedule a Food Truck to serve lunch – Look for a Cajun, Creole, or New Orleans food truck. Gumbo, Jambalaya, Shrimp, and po-boys are what you are looking for. Add a dessert vendor to add reinforce the Fat Tuesday concept. If your budget allows, provide free food or discounts. If budget doesn’t allow for rewards, the tenants will still appreciate being able to buy their own lunch while having fun on-site.
    • We can help you determine a budget based on activities at your other events if needed. Most trucks will work on a maximum so you can give them your budget number and they’ll stop serving free food once that’s reached.
    • Food Truck Discount Examples: Most food trucks will work with you to create a package to meet your budget. Ideas for how you might incorporate free tenant food include giving the first 20 people in costume free lunch, paying for the first $500 spent at the truck, or paying for an appetizer for anyone in costume up to $250.
