Spotlight on Veteran-owned Businesses
For those who served...
Memorial Day and Veterans Day are often confused. Veterans Day is a U.S. federal holiday dedicated to American veterans of all wars, while Memorial Day is set aside to honor the memory of those who died fighting for our country.
With Veterans Day, the date of November 11 was chosen based on the date of the Armistice at the end of World War I, which occurred in 1918, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. It marked the cessation of hostilities between the Allied nations and Germany. One year later, in November 1919, U.S. President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day. The day’s observation included parades and public gatherings, as well as a brief pause in business and school activities at 11 a.m. The date is still commemorated in many countries as Armistice Day.
November 11th became a federal holiday in the United States in 1938. In the aftermath of World War II and the Korean War, Armistice Day became known as Veterans Day to recognize the additional veterans from those conflicts.
In recognition of Veterans Day, MOBLZ would like to take this opportunity to spotlight some local Veteran-owned mobile businesses in our area. Seek out a Veteran-owned business in your area by searching online for something like “veteran owned food truck (your city)” or using VeteranOwnedBusiness.com, and support them tomorrow. Make sure you wish them a happy Veterans Day and thank them for the great service they provided to our country!
